  • In the above video, posted on Youtube by urpolarbear, a group of non-Jewish men, women and children from Crown Heights paid tribute to Leiby Kletzky. The Crown Height Jewish Softball League meets every Tuesday and Thursday night. Yesterday evening, players from the league joined the group in releasing blue and white balloons into the sky between games.

League member Yitzi Cole told CBS that people from the community had come to “show solidarity and support following the Borough Park boy’s brutal murder.”

One woman said, “We just want to show our love for the little boy that you guys lost because we as parents also feel what you feel in the loss,” one woman said. She added that she wanted to “show her children how to love openly and with no regard to color or race.”

This was so beautiful. NY amazes me because of people’s compasion.

Very nice gesture – but think of all the poor birds and sea life that will be killed when those balloons return to earth.

It was a nice gesture, but I don’t believe that it is legal. It adds to pollution and as you said, birds and marine life are affected by this.

Nobody that I know of, ever wrote notes on, and released balloons into the sky for the dead until Marie Osmonds son died, and the media announced that this is what she and her family did. Now alot of people are partaking in this dumb ritual.
