Three cars found torched and scrawled with anti-Semitic graffiti on Ocean Parkway in Midwood last November may be part of an insurance scam, and not a hate crime as the media had originally reported.

This morning’s New York Post quotes an anonymous community source who says that NYPD investigators suspected the crime was a hoax from the beginning.

“From day one, cops didn’t believe that it was an anti-Semitic incident because you never see Swastikas and KKK signs together,” said one community source who works closely with the police. “The cops believe that it’s a possible insurance scam — a cover up,” said the source.

Do you think the vandalism done to the Avenue J subway station on the B/Q line, as well as the curiously spelled graffiti in Marine Park could also be frauds?

Not frauds. Could be anti-semitic expression. It could also be just thoughtless behavior by teenagers who lack the maturity to understand how their actions may hurt people.
