The UJA-Federation of New York hosted its Annual Executive for a Day program. The special project allows 31 lay leaders a chance to visit and meet with executive leaders at various UJA-Federation network agencies.
The lay leaders get the opportunity to learn lessons from accomplished UJA executives.
“Everybody’s response was almost the same: they had never realized the responsibilities of the executive director, they had never experienced how extraordinarily bright the agency leadership were, and how grateful the agency executives were for what UJA-Federation brought to the table,” says Phillip Altheim according to the New York Non-Profit Press.
Altheim initiated Executive for a Day program eight years ago and it has been going strong ever since.
The Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst welcomed two lay leaders, Tina Price and Nina Ross. The two are from other community organizations and they got the chance to work with the Bensonhurst team to get a better understanding of the work.
“When people do get involved more, and see for themselves what an organization does, they then have a much richer, fuller understanding of the organization they’ve made a choice to contribute to,” says Gail Magaliff, CEO of F•E•G•S Health and Human Services System, another participating organization.
