Recently, Puerto Rican featherweight Orlando Cruz came out as a gay. He is the first to publicly announce his orientation in boxing. Locally-bred boxer Paulie Malignaggi spoke about the news to ESPN and showed support for Cruz’s step.

“Cruz will be fine,” Malignaggi said. “It’s 2012, society handles these things in a more mature way nowadays.”

Now, if we could only get the diplomatic Malignaggi to box at Barclays, then all will really be fine.
