Cops dove into the water in Coney Island Saturday to rescue an autistic teenager who ran out of a Gravesend high school, the Daily News reports.
The 14-year-old had ducked out a back door at P.S. 721 around 2pm, police told the Daily News. About two-and-half hours later a woman called police to report a naked teen running in the water near West 12th Street.
When police arrived, the teenager was running in and out of the water. He eventually walked wast-deep into the surf. After officers failed to convince the boy, who is non-verbal, to return to shore, the cops removed their gun belts, uniform shorts and shoes, and jumped into the ocean to rescue him, according to the Daily News.
The teen was given a T-shirt and wrapped in a beach towel once he was brought to the beach. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital for evaluation, the Daily News reports.
