MCU Park was rocking last weekend as the Mad Decent Block Party music festival rolled through Coney Island.

Among Saturday’s performers were big names like Diplo, Dillon Francis, Tory Lanez and more. However it was Sunday that was most exciting. Kesha, who has been away from performing for the past few years because she is in the middle of a sexual harassment lawsuit with her former producer, played a set in which she performed her new single, “True Colors.” The single is her first since she was on Pitbull’s mega-hit, “Timber,” in 2013.

“Seeing Kesha was truly amazing. Not to mention she looked great and her band killed it,” said Haley-May Block who attended the festival.

Most notably, however, Drake, who was in town for his Madison Square Garden concert on Monday, made a surprise appearance on Sunday during Boi-1da’s set. Drake played “Jumpman,” “Back to Back,” and “For free.”

“In the middle of Boi-1da’s set Drake walked out and played a surprise set. I’ve never heard people more excited in my life,” said Block, who was also taken aback by the tightness of security at MCU Park. The security procedures were like that of an airport where everyone must remove their shoes, she said.

The strict security measures provides a reminder of the Electric Zoo festival in 2013, where two concert goers overdosed and died at the event, causing the last day of the festival to be cancelled.

“[Kesha’s] first tour since her time in rehab, and the controversial law suit, it feels like I was watching pop music history happening,” said Block after the festival.

First Red Hot Chili Peppers, and now Drake was here?! I always thought I needed to go to Downtown Brooklyn or Manhattan for celebrity sightings.
