Back before the Bean, in 2007 (the site launched in 2011) a then 20-year-old Pamela Hanson allegedly stabbed 26-year-old David Diaz in his room at Bay Ridge’s Best Western-Gregory Hotel, killing him, the Brooklyn Paper reported at the time. Diaz’s corpse was discovered, stabbed and beaten, by a hotel worker on December 3, 2007.

Today, acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that Hanson, who hails from Bed Stuy, has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. She plead guilty to second-degree murder last month.

Hanson, reported to be a former exotic dancer, stripper, and prostitute who formerly worked at the long-closed Rego Park adult-entertainment club Goldfingers (when the club was shut down by the city in 1999, the neighborhood rejoiced) allegedly stabbed Diaz multiple times after he spat on her, swore at her, and aggressively attempted to have sex with her, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.

In a statement to the police, Hanson said, “I took the knife and I tried to stick it down his throat as far as it would go,” the Eagle reported at the time.

Following the incident, Hanson took the dead man’s cellphone and bank card and attempted to buy a pair of shoes at a shop called Yvette’s Boutique in Downtown Brooklyn. Her attempt was denied, and she disposed of both card and phone.

The hotel, located at 8315 Fourth Avenue, has a grisly history of death and murder. Just a few months after Diaz was killed at the inn, the body of 52-year-old Paul Mento was found in a second-floor bathtub with duct tape covering his mouth, the Brooklyn Paper reported.

Then, in April 2008, a woman killed herself in the hotel.

The hotel remains open with a 4.5 star review on Trip Advisor.
