This photo, by Retrofresh! via Flickr, is timeless and just about perfect in its depiction of what could be one of dozens of random corner stores in Bensonhurst.

The above photo wasn’t taken in Manhattan or Brownstone Brooklyn.
It was taken right here on Cropsey Avenue and Bay 22nd Street. This image proves that there are plenty of gorgeous, neglected old buildings and hand painted signs in Southern Brooklyn just waiting for someone’s tender loving care to restore them to their former glory.
With this beautiful shot, photographer David Tan goes digital, and yet still manages to achieve his trademark muted colors.
David captured this classic street scene using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS 48mm,
f/5.6 at 1/125s, ISO 100.

The above photo – which was taken alongside the Belt Parkway – comes courtesy of the very talented David Tan, who used a Konica Autoreflex T3 with Kodak Gold 200 film.

When I look at this photo by David Tan, I can’t help but think of the Charlie Chaplin film The Kid. David used Kodak ColorPlus 200 film with a Konica Autoreflex T3. Taken on 86th Street.

Thanks to Erica Sherman from our sister site Sheepshead Bites, we recently learned of a local photographer named David Tan. David (often) uses a film camera rather than a digital and has quickly gained our admiration. In Erica’s words, “his images have a very cool, muted color and mystifying quality about them.”
Expect to see more impressive examples of David’s work on Bensonhurst Bean in the near future.

The above photo, which we found on Flickr, is by Joo0ey, who writes:
This is the block where I grew up on. The same block I spent 18 years of my life waking and walking out the door from and coming home at night to sleep. I’ve walked past the fences and trampled all over the concrete grounds a hundred thousand times. I moved when I was 18 to Queens, and now that I’m living in Brooklyn again, this was the first time I actually set foot onto that block. Everything was smaller, shorter, and different. That’s to be expected I guess, times changes – things change. It was kind of amazing actually. My house was a mere few steps from my elementary school, no more than 2 minutes or so walking distance and even that school has changed. The deli one the corner has changed. The fences, doors, stoups, and neighbours have all changed as well. I guess it’s for the better. The place was not glamorous yet I found myself attached to that place. Years of memories flashed before my eyes – the times I spent running up and down the block, the hours spent sitting on the stoup watching people and cars pass by, the melted ice cream that dripped from the cone to the floor – everything was just as I remembered, albeit a bit different. Stay classy 12th ave, youi’ll (sic) always have a place in my heart.

The above photo of the Verrazano Bridge was taken by joo0ey (via Flickr), who had the following to say:
I’ve passed by this bridge many times in my youth, I’ve also been on Shore Road many times too, but I have been under the bridge. It was definitely a site to see, even at night. Directly pass the guard rails is the water, and seeing the murky darkness led much to the imagination. My friends and I kept imagining Cloverfield’s return from under the depths of the water. Needless to say, it added to the vertigo that I was feeling. While not the best angle, leaving the shutter on for about 25 seconds gave this stunning photo.
