(UPDATE 9/14/12 3:12 p.m.) Reader and tipster Kseniya Derevyankina has given us all some great news. Alex’s isn’t closing, but moving to a new location across the street. Let the boozing continue!

She writes, “Yes it is true, they are closing this location, but only because they are moving to a bigger place across the street(used to be Dolfin gym). So no reason to be sad! It’s only going to get bigger and have a better selection!!!”

Alex’s Discount Liquors and Wines is for rent. Alex’s Discount Liquor, I hardly… no, I won’t go there.

The spirits store at 1698 86th Street will be missed by its bevy of fans. According to Yelp reviews, most were excited that they delivered.

“This place delivers. Enough said,” writes Samantha S.

Sadly, looks like this place will close down. Enough said.

Amazing 99-Cent & Up Deals, the place where store-owner and father of four Isaac Kadare was murdered is on the market.

The body was found at 1877 86th Street by two customers at about on August 2. His wife and children, who often helped him out in the store, obviously do not want to keep hold of the business where Kadare was killed.

Kadare’s murder was later connected to the July murder of Bay Ridge shopkeeper Mohammed Gebeli. Both men were shot in their with a .22 caliber gun in their stores.

Police released a sketch of the suspect and some clues to his identity, but nothing has been heard of the case since. Whether the trail has gone cold or they are waiting for the right time to act remains to be seen.

Listen up ghouls and goblins, a new pop-up Halloween store called Spirit Halloween has risen. For all of your vampire, sexy nurse and cobweb decorations, head on over to Casear’s Bay Bazaar to see what’s in stock.

Speaking of which, I need a fresh costume idea. What do you guys suggest? Please, spare the obvious witch, pirate wench stuff. I’d like something a little more clever.

This is a paid announcement from Joseph S.  Reisman and Associates,  a full-service accounting firm and columnist for Sheepshead Bites, located at 2751 Coney Island Avenue, (718) 332-1040

Are you concerned about the financial situation the country’s going through? What you can do in the immediate, as well as in the distant future to secure your financial security? Worried about what happens to your investments in a bankruptcy? Should you set up a life estate? A reverse mortgage? Do you really need a will? How do you need to set up a trust for  your children? What about this new 3 percent Medicare tax when you sell your house? Can you give your assets to your family before you go into a nursing home?

I have two friends who can answer many of your questions, and steer you in the right direction.

Judith Grimaldi is a frequent speaker at the Independent Associations of Accountants, and has answered many questions for the tax preparers. Her expertise in the tax area makes her a very valuable source of information that has gained her a reputaion as a good and honest attorney.

Matthew Gershon is one of the few stock advisors who prefers to keep his clients on a conservative and growth course, forgoing the big commissions on ‘hot’ tips. We have planned a seminar on September 12. Here you can ask any questions, in any area, to help you on your financial path.

Please join us for an evening of information. RSVP here, or if you prefer, call Judy’s office at 718.238.6960. If you’d like, call me first so we can expand upon your question before the event.

And by the way, this is a free seminar.

A new fruit and vegetable store will be slinging melons at 8501 85th Street and Bay Parkway.

The produce store replaces H&E Kosher Grocery, which had been there for quite a long time.

Photo-taker Howard Weiss posted the above photo along with this caption, “Oh joy, a 24-hour fruit store.”

With the abundance of green markets on 86th Street, it’s hard to imagine the need for another. What do you think, too many fruit markets or there’s always room for more?

“Jeirani” Dance. Source: The Dancing Crane Studio

A new cultural experience has taken root in Bensonhurst. Dancing Crane Studio opened its doors at 6401 20th Avenue in order to foster Georgian language, literature and the arts.

The Dancing Crane company has existed since 1996. Now, they have extended into a full studio and center for teaching and performances.

It is run by Artistic Director Victor Sirelson and includes choreographer Vladimer “Dato” Goderidze, the Mgzavruli Music Ensemble led by Vano Goderdzishvili, New York’s first and only Georgian theater company called the “Georgian Theater of New York” with director and playwright Lia Bakhturidze Sirelson and a children’s choreographic ensemble called “Pesvebi” with director and choreographer Shorena Barbakadze.

The staff at the school write:

Our work involves practicing, presenting and transmitting to others the living cultural legacy of the folk arts. All dances and music are performed with strict adherence to the traditions, evolved over centuries. At the same time our work is part of the living tradition and includes contemporary interpretations by traditional artists.

The studio offers Georgian dance classes, music, theater, modern disciplines like hip-hop dance and more for both children and adults.

Hopefully, the studio puts on a public performance in Bensonhurst Park or the like so that we get a chance to see what Georgian language, dance and music is all about. Otherwise, how will I ever learn to say “good luck” in Georgian?

I plead ignorance on this latest post, thus I am turning to my faithful bakery-loving readers to help me out. Rispoli, an Italian bakery, which used to be located at 72nd Street and New Utrecht Avenue closed down a few years ago. This, I can recall.

Now, I’m getting reports that the famed bakery is back at a new location. Here’s a Yelp review written by Erik H. that I’m using as evidence:

Rispoli is back!!!

They used to be located in a larger Bakery over on 72nd street and New Utrecht Ave.  Now, they have a small shop on 78th street that just has the Italian Ices that everyone has grown to love.  When I say small, I mean small but they now have more flavors than ever.
I have already been here a few times and the Vanilla Chip is still as awesome as I remember it.  If anyone remembers the original Rispoli, you need to come here and experience it all over again!

O.K. that’s as official as it gets, Rispoli is back in a smaller space at 1306 78th Street, between 13th Ave and 14th Ave, now serving just homemade ices.

You can never have too many Italian ices joints, that’s what I always say. Welcome back Rispoli.

I’m going to drop a little knowledge I picked up at college regarding Jingdezhen. It is a city in China that is often referred to as the “Porcelain Capital” because of its long tradition of pottery production. Now, Jingdezhen has made it’s way to 86th Street by way of an imported porcelain shop.

Jingdezhen at 2351 86th Street specializes in giant vases, awesome looking dragons made of jade and other, smaller art and household items.

The owner said business has been slow to pickup, but he hopes things will be moving along. This store is probably not related to recent porcelain shop which opened on Avenue U with a similar name. Maybe it is. Jingdezhen.

Chicken’s BBQ & Rotisserie at 2433 86th Street has closed. If you fell in love with their skinless fried chicken, potato wedges, spare ribs or otherwise, they have three locations open in Long Island.

How about a Chicken’s road trip?

According to the listing, the business has been there for 50 years.

It’s located in a busy strip mini mall on 86th Street. The name and exact address were not published, but there might be a Dyker Heights reader that knows exactly where this place is.
