The biggest complaint from young people about Bensonhurst is that there is nothing to do.
The neighborhood goes quiet at 8pm, and after a long week of work, wouldn’t it be nice to have just one local spot to grab a beer, relax, and listen to music?
Our area may not seem like it has much nightlife, but there are actually plenty of cozy, divey, unassuming pubs that are great for socializing and taking the edge off.
We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites, so you’ll never have to trek out to Bay Ridge again. Just bring a few friends, order a pizza, and make it your own.
1. Puerto Del Sol, 1550 Bay Ridge Avenue
During the week, it’s a upscale Salvadorian restaurant, but on Fridays and Saturdays, it transforms into a lively Spanish karaoke night — and keeps going until 2am. Usually there is a soccer game or a boxing match playing on the flat-screen TV, which always draws a jovial, tipsy crowd. Puerto Del Sol also has a respectable cocktail menu — we recommend their deliciously tart mojito cubano.
2. My Father’s Place, 1861 Cropsey Avenue
A boisterous locals’ bar, where classic rock blares, a disco ball whirls, and regulars occasionally step out onto the dance floor. If you feel like an outsider at first, the handsome wood interior, the gorgeous marble patio, and smothering hugs from the bartender will soon make you feel right at home.
3. Homestretch Pub, 214 Kings Highway
This cozy family-owned sports bar is cash only, but the drinks are cheap, and there is a charming outdoor garden where you can order in food from Seamless and get rowdy. This unpretentious watering hole is a perfect spot to whittle the night away.
4. Lutzina Bar & Lounge, 2031 Bath Avenue
Part lounge, part Euro discotheque, you’ll hear all those terrible 90s pop songs you love to hate at this glitzy hotspot on Bath Avenue. Victoria Secret models strut their stuff on three flat-screen TVs above the bar, and ornate wallpaper and palatial chandeliers clash with strobe lights on the dance floor, but that’s all part of the charm. A wide selection of hookah flavors and food are available for purchase.
5. La Boheme Lounge, 1790 Stillwell Avenue
House music, hookah, plush seating, and unexpectedly delicious food all make this casual Gravesend gem an ideal spot for after-work drinks.
